Growing Health, Community, and Hope: Highlights from Our June Lupus Support Meeting

On June 6, A Journey With Lupus hosted another inspiring support group meeting at the Leanna Hicks Library in Inkster, Michigan. Members, caregivers, and community supporters gathered for an afternoon of learning, connection, and encouragement.
We were honored to welcome Katrina Harris, known as The Urban Homesteader, as our featured speaker. Katrina shared practical and accessible ways to improve health and self-sufficiency through year-round gardening, suburban homesteading, traditional food preservation, and vegan cooking.
Throughout her presentation, Katrina demonstrated how even small changes can help families grow fresh food, reduce food costs, and make healthier choices. Attendees learned about growing vegetables throughout the year, preserving seasonal harvests, and incorporating more plant-based meals into their daily lives. Her presentation was filled with practical tips, personal experiences, and creative ideas that participants could begin using right away.
Beyond the educational presentation, the meeting provided an opportunity for individuals affected by lupus to connect with others who understand the challenges of living with a chronic illness. Conversations, shared experiences, and mutual encouragement reminded everyone that they are not alone on their journey.
At A Journey With Lupus, our mission is to support, educate, and empower those impacted by lupus. Events like these help build stronger communities while providing valuable tools that promote overall wellness and quality of life.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Katrina Harris for sharing her knowledge and passion with our group, and to everyone who attended and contributed to the welcoming atmosphere of the event.
Together, we rise. Together, we heal.
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
